Case Study 2

Design brief: to create a beautiful front garden, with geometric beds and parking for two cars. The existing site consisted of an untidy lawn with overgrown trees and shrubs, and a tarmac drive as a parking area.

Geum 'Totally Tangerine' and bronze fennel contrasts well with the reconstituted stone and the Derbyshire limestone.

Whilst there was a lot of material to remove from this site, there were established trees - two silver birch and a pear - which would form a structural component for the planting scheme. A circular geometric pattern was carried from the block work to the form of the raised beds. The beds were constructed around the three trees and planted with complimentary annuals and perennials. Derbyshire stone chippings on the parking area provides a contrasting texture and backdrop for the colours and the foliage in the raised beds.

Silvery birch bark is set off by planting Iris Germanica 'Kent Pride' and frothy bronze fennel.
